Our customer received the error ‘session ended’ whilst using the switcher the other night, the stream continued to work and another member of staff was able to login and carry on with the switcher. What could be the reason for this happening?
Hello Bethrayburn,
Thank you for reaching out via our forums! It sounds like the customer may have run into the 30 minute timeout function of Epiphan Live. There is a 30 minute inactivity timer, so if there is no interaction with the Epiphan Live interface it logs the user out after 30 minutes. This is meant to help increase security. In theory the original staff member should have been able to simply refresh the page and log back into the Epiphan Live interface.
I hope this information is helpful! If you have feedback regarding this feature we’d love to hear it, as we’re always looking to improve our products!
Hi Zach,
Thank you so much for coming back to me, is this the only reason this could happen? The stream was live at the time, so would the security feature still kick in even though the stream was live? Sometimes our staff login from home and just have Epiphan running in the background.
Beth,
You’re welcome! Generally speaking, this is the most likely reason this might happen. Another technical possibility would be if the user’s network connection was interrupted in some way, this might also result in the Epiphan Live interface becoming inaccessible/offline.
The stream runs independently from Epiphan Live, the two are not really connected in any way except that they’re both coming from the Pearl. So, if something were to happen to the Pearl, or the Pearl’s network connection, you could expect both the stream and Epiphan Live to go down. The timeout function also will continue to operate even when a stream is live.
I’ve brought a feature request to our development team regarding customization of the Epiphan Live timeout, its designation is PROGMD-371. You can check on its status by referencing this code to any of our team via the standard support services, such as chat. Currently, it’s not selected for active development, and I’m afraid I have no timeline or information for if or when this might happen.
Please let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!
