Live Captioning

Do any of your devices support Live Captioning? And if so, how would we get that data to the encoder?

Hello AberTyler,
Thank you for reaching out on our forums, welcome! Unfortunately, none of our Pearl devices currently support live captioning, or captioning data. They effectively ignore any such data that is passed to them and do not pass it on to other devices. We are currently looking into how we might support captioning data in the future, but there’s no timeline or model for implementation yet.

We do also offer our LiveScrypt product, which does real time transcription of audio sources. It can output a video stream of the transcription which can be ingested into an encoder, like our Pearls, and then overlaid on another video stream to achieve something that is visually similar to closed captioning. We have some examples of this in our LiveScrypt videos, like this one, https://www.youtube.com/live/qYbD07cRpyY?si=sO8n_n9Q70pJMj16&t=1165.

You would need both the LiveScrypt and an encoding device that supports an HDMI input, like one of our Pearls, to utilize this functionality.

I hope this is helpful, please let me know if you have any other questions, or feel free to reach out to us at support@epiphan.com as well!
