Getting Data Range Video from AV.IO 4k

Hello,

I’m wondering is AVIO 4k is changing sources’ video levels.
I have a source (Fuji Film XT-4) which is known to send full (data) range video over HDMI. When monitoring this source captured using AVIO 4k it appeared in legal (TV) range. I’m wondering if this is intentionally and whether there is a possibility to get original (full range) from the AVIO 4k?

Thank you

Hi Sasha,

Sorry for the delayed response. The AV.io 4K is able to pass full or legal range, we suspect what might be happening is that the bit depth of the XT-4’s HDMI output is 10-bit, which is too high for the AV.io to fully capture as it can only process 8-bit signals. This could manifest as a contrast/range shift potentially.

If the XT-4 is unable to output 8-bit over HDMI it may be necessary to place a switcher/scaler, monitor with passthrough, or other “active converter” type device in between the XT-4 and the AV.io in an attempt to force the signal to change to 8bit.

Hope this helps!
