Frequent Stream Disconnections with Webcaster X2

Hello,

I have recently faced a frustrating issue with my Webcaster X2; and I’m hoping someone here can help. I’ve been using the Webcaster X2 for a while to stream events and webinars, and it’s mostly been a solid experience. However, over the past few weeks; I’ve noticed a recurring problem: my streams frequently disconnect after just a few minutes; sometimes even less. :upside_down_face:

The stream disconnects seem to happen randomly. Sometimes the stream will last for 5 minutes, and other times it will cut off within the first minute. There’s no pattern that I can identify – it happens with different types of content, at various times of the day; and even on different days of the week.

I’ve tested my internet connection thoroughly. I have a high-speed fiber optic connection with 100 Mbps upload speed; and I’ve ensured that no other devices are consuming a large amount of bandwidth during the streams. I’ve also tested the connection stability with other streaming devices; and they seem to work just fine.

I have tried streaming to multiple platforms, including YouTube Live, Facebook Live; and Twitch, but the problem persists across all platforms. I’ve also experimented with different stream quality settings (1080p, 720p, and lower); but I still encounter the same issue.

I’ve tried switching from Wi-Fi to a wired Ethernet connection, thinking that the Wi-Fi signal might be causing issues; but the problem continues. I even changed network cables and tested the router by connecting other devices; but nothing seems to make a difference.

I have ensured that my Webcaster X2 is running the latest firmware. I’ve also checked for any new updates on the Epiphan website, but everything seems to be up to date. I’ve rebooted the device multiple times; did a factory reset, and reconfigured all settings; but no luck.

I am using a Canon EOS camera with an HDMI connection to the Webcaster X2; and I’ve confirmed that the camera is not the issue since it works perfectly with other streaming hardware. I’ve also swapped HDMI cables to rule out any cable-related issues.

I have tried changing the stream key; checking for conflicts in IP settings, and even relocating the Webcaster X2 to another physical space to rule out environmental factors; but nothing seems to fix the problem.
I have checked https://www.epiphan.com/userguides/webcasterx2/Content/3_Shared/troubleshooting.htm_aws developer troubleshooting guide but still need help.

Has anyone else faced this issue with their Webcaster X2? I would love to hear if anyone has any tips; tricks that could help prevent these frequent disconnections.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello Kevin,

I am sorry to hear you are seeing issues with the Webcaster X2 - typically such errors indicate an networking issue most likely a limitation of upload bandwidth from your internet service provider. Therefore, there is not enough bandwidth to stream off your network to the internet.

Please note - the Webcaster has been discontinued for over 4 years and has received no further updates since 2020.

Please see:

Also note the Webcaster no longer reliably works with YouTube or Facebook

We are suggesting the Pearl Nano as a replacement and you can learn more about it in the links provided
