Clarification on AMD chipset support

Hi there,

We are using AV io HD and AV io 4K grabbers with various machines running Linux.

We are experiencing issues with one of the new candidate machines which has an AMD Renoir chipset (lspci shows the USB controller as Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD] Renoir/Cezanne USB 3.1).
Specifically, some of the AV io HD devices work (those that are labeled “Made in Canada”), some don’t (labeled “Made in China”). The one AV io 4K device I tried (also labeled “Made in China”) doesn’t work.

We found in the user guides that under “Limitations and known issues” there’s this note:

UVC-601: The grabber doesn’t capture audio and video when using an AMD Ryzen™ 3.0 USB host controller on Ubuntu.

I’m wondering whether this is caused

  • by the Linux USB stack - AMD chipset interaction (given that this issue doesn’t apply to Windows)
  • or by the device firmware (given that some of the devices seem to work)

Could you help me out with this?

Thanks,
Lehel
