Cannot use DVI2USB 3.0 in Ubuntu 20.04

I downloaded the vga2usb-3.33.0.15-ubuntu-5.4.0-70-generic-x86_64-52005-1829 and install it in my ubuntu 20.04 with kernal Linux Precision-Tower-3620 5.4.0-91-generic #102-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 5 16:31:28 UTC 2021 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux. All went well and I could see the device by lsusb:

Bus 002 Device 007: ID 5555:3501 Epiphan Systems Inc. DVI2USB3

However, the device’s LED kept RED and no /dev/video* could be found.
(This device works well on windows 10.)

The Linux drivers unfortunately need to match the kernel version of your operating system, which unfortunately do not match in this instance.

Please send us an email at info@epiphan.com regarding the driver mismatch so that we can try and locate a matching kernel version for your use case

I have contacted info@epiphan.com and tried the vga2usb-3.33.0.17-ubuntu-5.4.0-91-generic-x86_64-54546-1829.deb. However, nothing happened. The device’s LED kept RED and no /dev/video* could be found still. (I have uninstalled the old driver.)

The device LED does remain red until actively requested and used in an application, unlike the behavior you would see on Windows. Official support for Linux was rendered legacy in 2020 and no further development is being done with these distributions unfortunately. We do have other customers successfully utilizing the 5.4.0-91 generic drivers with DVI2USB 3.0 on Ubuntu 20.04, so they should in theory be working.
That being said, if something has changed, or the kernel version is not an official LTS build, or if the drivers do not match the distribution and kernel version, this could cause compatibility issues.

For driver installation, you would need to ensure that the DVI2USB 3.0 is disconnected before uninstalling the old drivers and installing new ones. I would recommend the following these steps for driver installation resolution:

  1. disconnect the DVI2USB 3.0
  2. uninstall the current drivers
  3. reboot your system
  4. install the new drivers
  5. Connect the DVI2USB 3.0 and then test.

Hopefully this order of operations and re-installation process will address and resolve the device behavior issues. If the issue persists, please respond to your open case ticket with our customer success team for further troubleshooting

Thank you very much. After rebooting, everything works well.
