Can i stream sdi to usb3 with a 4g signal with obs software?

I want to live stream with sdi device with my canon xha1s through sdi using obs software with a 4g signal. Is this possible? Thanks for any advice.

You can definitely capture an SDI signal using either our AV.io SDI or SDI2USB 3.0 for use in live streaming using OBS.

Streaming over 4G is also a possibility if you provide this to your laptop, say via a wifi hotspot or 4G adapter. The only thing to be careful of with 4G is the bandwidth you have available, as this will vary according to location and if you are moving.

I looked up the camera though, and this Canon XH-A1s doesn’t appear to have SDI output. It seems to only have composite, component, and firewire output. It is important to note that a BNC connector does not necessarily mean that this is an SDI output, as this appears to be a composite output which cannot be captured by our SDI capture devices unfortunately.

thanks for your reply. You are correct I never used the bnc connector. I am now looking for a camera with sdi output similar to my canon xha1s. any suggestions? i film bass tournaments and have been asked to do live stream weigh ins. I am researching what i need to live stream a tournament. I want to use sdi because i will be able to have length between camera and capture device. Thanks for any suggestions Carroll Rogers

We’ve been using the Sony PXW-Z100, though this seems to be discontinued with the PXW-Z150 being the apparent replacement. For something at a more affordable price point the Sony PXW-X70 looks good. Though caveat being that we have only used the PXW-Z100 out of these, so you would probably want to look up some reviews on these units to evaluate them.

Use a camera with HDMI out and use the Blackmagic Micro Converter HDMI-SDI. It’s brilliant and can be powered from the HDMI if there’s enough oomph there.

Hi rogersoutdoors. I used to shoot on an XHA1. Great camera, but unfortunately lacking a few of the features that some of the newer cameras have. Here’s some good, reasonably affordable camcorders that have SDI output:

Sony PXW-X70
Recommended by Adam seems like a good option. Has Built-in ND filters, which might be useful if you are shooting outdoors a lot. Camera is 1920x1080, but relatively affordable.

JVC GY-HM220
Less expensive. Features a 4k recording mode. Also has built in ND, but doesnt have 1/64 ND like the PXW-X70.

Sony PXW-Z90V
Will be available Dec 2017. A bit pricier than the cameras listed above but has some interesting new features including Hybrid Log Gamma, which may be good for capturing high contrast outdoor visuals. Also has a fast autofocus, which may be useful for outdoor sports. Includes 1/4, 1/16, and 1/64 ND built in. Lots of options for recording formats, including 4k, super slow motion etc.

Canon XF205
A bit pricier. Has wide dynamic range gamma which helps prevent overexposure (good for outdoor shooting). But lacking built in ND. That said it’s apparently a good camera for ENG/event and doc style projects. Has a really good zoom lens. No 4k recording.

Let us know how it goes! And share some links, I’d be interested to see some bass tournament action!
